The Magnus family is definitely the most unique aircraft on the market, providing it’s owner with not only excellent cruise capability but also with the joy of soaring.
Magnus series are a two seat, side-by-side advanced light-weight airplane family. The Magnus, with its custom designed wing profile is a unique multi functional and multi purpose single engine aircraft for primary and advanced flying. The Magnus models combine the unequalled advantages of a high performance motor-glider with unparalleled efficiency during powered long-range cruise flight. Because they are equipped with high-tech features such as flaperons, wing upper side effective airbrakes and a ground adjustable, forward folding or variable-pitch propeller the Magnus airplanes can excel at every task pilots put it to. Magnus exploitation and handling costs are low due to the simple design solutions and high aerodynamic performances. Advanced design engineering concepts, gliders designs advantages, excellent aerodynamics and unique safety features make it the performance future orientated choice of Ultra Light- and Advanced Light Aircraft categories.
Magnus models, Magnus and Mingus, load measurements, structural dimensions, calculations and proofs of compliance are being completed by the Magnus family experienced design team. This will result in certification in category UL LTF in Germany (MTOM 472.5 kg) and in ULA categories of many European countries (MTOM 450 kg) and with no technical changes in category LSA for US of America and in coming ELSA for Europe as well (MTOM 590 kg).
Mingus (10,6 m / 34.8 ft span, 100 hp engine) will follow immediately after Magnus came in to serial production. Maxus is to be the third model of the family.
Magnus
Magnus, Two in One, the aircraft and motorglider, (13,35 m / 43,8 ft span winglets included, 80 hp engine) is the complete new modern airplane multi model, stemming from Magnus family basic design, as:
- a basic moderate and high aerodynamic characteristics 13,35 m span, low wing motorglider with winglets,
- best L/D 32 : 1 (at the retracted landing gear)
- easier to hangar than comparative 15 m span touring motorgliders,
- having about the similar soaring performances as comparative fixed faired 15 m span taildraggers,
- but faster speed capability with same 80 hp maximum power installed in the nose,
- low empty weight construction of simple and reliable engineering details using materials as carbon fabric, Aramid honeycomb and Titan as well.
The Magnus basic configuration is an excellent package, which will satisfy many of pilot desires. It comes with a high level of standard equipped, and a long list of options.
Magnus is to come standard equipped with:
- Rotax 912 UL - 80 HP engine
- ground adjustable two blades composite propeller
- fixed tricycle landing gear
- ready to fly and complete equipped with engine control and monitoring instrumentation
- carbon and aramid fiber build fuselage, tail and wings
- installation prepared for the ballistic airplane rescue system
- all surfaces in white Acryl / PU weather and UV resistant paint with gliders quality hand work finish
- EXTRAS available: removable wing ends for easier hangar parking, retractable landing gears, BRS installed, variable pitch propeller, any RAL color complete painted surface, …….
The Magnus 13,35 m wing section is the latest state of the art. The wing-fuselage intersection was optimized with special aerofoil’s in this area, wing plan-form and dihedral make Magnus aesthetics and add the advantage at low speeds, than effective and Magnus unique designed winglets will result in a “larger” comparative wing span of approx 14,4 m. Another additional lift producer to the taller winglets is the lifting body shaped fuselage, which is also influenced by wing circularly lifting vortex, enhancing the lifting ability of the isolated body. Exact performance figures will be available once flight tests have been done. The best glide ratio of Magnus with 13,35 m span in retractable gear version was calculated with 32 : 1 and in fixed tricycle gear version with best L/D 28 : 1.
For easier transport by trailer or hangar storage the wings of the Magnus can feature the optional removable wingtip. This results in a wing span of about 10.3 m (34 ft. 2 in.), short enough to fit into any “T” hangar. These removable wing tips are held in place with an automatic, quick to use locking feature. If you can’t find hangar space at your local airport, you can take the Magnus home with you. In its custom designed enclosed trailer. It only takes about 15 minutes to remove the wings and horizontal stabilizer and store them in the trailer. All the controls hook up automatically, the wings are secured by permanent wing pins under the seat pan, the horizontal stabilizer by a threaded bolt.
Mingus
Mingus, Fast High Performances Aircraft, is the clipped wing of 10.6 m (with small “winglets” up), having a more powerful 100 hp engine to combine good pure speed with high level fuel economy, easy to hangar as Piper Club, having air brakes and wing area of about 1,1 m2 / 11,8 ft2 less than the Magnus. The wing plan-form (subtracting swept back extensions of 13,35 span version), shifts wing aerodynamic centre forward enough to accommodate C.G. travel caused by heavier engine. Short span nearly straight wing allows to achieve higher maneuvering and Vne speeds. Turbulence penetration speed to be higher.
The Mingus basic configuration is an excellent package. Mingus comes with a high level of standard equipped, and a long list of options.
Mingus is to come standard equipped with:
- Rotax 912 ULS - 100 HP engine
- ground adjustable two blades propeller system, composite propeller
- fixed tricycle landing gear
- ready to fly and complete equipped with engine control and monitoring instrumentation
- carbon and aramid fiber build fuselage and wings
- installation prepared for the ballistic airplane rescue system
- all surfaces in white Acryl / PU weather and UV resistant paint with gliders quality hand work finish
- EXTRAS available: retractable landing gears, BRS installed, variable pitch propeller, any RAL color complete painted surface, …
For the future is planed that Mingus to tow also gliders (engine 120 hp) with high level efficiency and economy.
Mingus combines good pure speed with high level fuel economy. Calculated speeds of the Mingus with retracted landing gear are:
- Vso = 64 km/h / 35 kt
- Vs = 74 km/h / 40 kt
- Va = 157 km/h / 85 kt
- Vc econo = 245 km/h / 132 kt
- Vc 75% = 278 km/h / 150 kt
- Vne = 298 km/h / 161 kt
Magnus family cabin. The large (cabin width max. 1255 mm / 49.4 in) and ergonomically designed cockpit provides excellent visibility and seating comfort comes from the shaped seats with built in headrests. Crew comfort is provided by careful ergonomic design and the generous dimensions of the cockpit, which includes dual controls, adjustable seats, and in flight adjustable rudder pedals. Further travel comfort is provided by convenient map holders, adjustable ventilation and heating and a large luggage compartment behind the seats, with space for an oxygen bottle. The instrument panel is within easy reach of both pilots. Whatever of the gliders type the instrument panel is specious and ready to accept the latest in digital navigation, communication and entertainment devices. Engine monitoring is done by customer choice of a digital multifunctional engine monitoring system or of an advanced analog gauge package. An autopilot can be installed to further customize the Magnus for your type of flying.
Magnus family airplanes durability and service. A modern aircraft should be built with modern technology. Magnus family aircraft are. Carbon fiber construction offers great advantages in terms of strength, durability, weight-savings, corrosion and fatigue resistance. More than 90% of the airframe is built with the Carbon and Aramid fibers. This makes the airframe virtually maintenance free. The finish is a 2-component Acryl / Polyurethane combined paint that is very durable. The Magnus requires only a minimum of maintenance and service. Carbon fiber and Aramid repairs can be accomplished by many repair shops around the country.
